Jean-Louis Koszul

Jean -Louis Koszul ( born January 3, 1921 in Strasbourg ) is a French mathematician who deals with algebra and differential geometry.

Koszul went to Strasbourg, where his father André Koszul was a professor at the university, the school and started his studies, which he continued in Paris there. In 1949 he became Maître the Conférences at the University of Strasbourg, and in 1956 professor. Since 1963 he was a professor at the University of Grenoble. Since the late 1940s he was a member of Bourbaki.

Koszul wrote in 1947 about the topology of Lie groups and in 1950 published his work homology et cohomology of the Lie de algebres. In connection with studies on the cohomology of Lie algebras, he also led the Koszul complex in the homological algebra.

He has been married since 1948 and has three children. He is a passionate mountain climber.

In 1980 he became a corresponding member of the French Academy of Sciences.
