Jean Louis Marie Poiret

Jean Louis Marie Poiret ( born June 11, 1755 in Saint- Quentin, † April 7, 1834 in Paris) was a French botanist and explorer. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Poir. ".

Life and work

1785 and 1786 he was appointed by Louis XVI. sent to Algeria to study the flora. After the French Revolution, he became a professor of natural history at the Ecole Centrale of the department of Aisne.

The plant genus Poiretia Vent. was named after him.
