Jean-Michel Pilc

Jean -Michel Pilc (* October 19, 1960 in Paris ) is a French jazz pianist and composer.

Pilc, who learned to play jazz piano autodidact, playing in Paris, among others, with Martial Solal, Daniel Humair, Aldo Romano and Michel Portal. In 1995 he moved to New York City, where he founded his own trio with François Moutin and Ari Hoenig. With the trio, he joined the United States and Canada as well as in Latin America, Europe, Africa and Japan. 2000 emerged the CD Jean -Michel Pilc Trio - Together - Live at Sweet Basil, NYC - Vol 1 & 2, then the studio album Welcome Home. On both his own compositions of Pilc can be heard. Followed in 2003 by Cardinal Points. Was published in 2004 Pilc ' first solo album, Follow Me; In 2005 he took - again as a trio - Live at Iridium, New York with bassist Thomas Bramerie and drummer Mark Mondesir on. In 2004 he was involved in Rosario Giuliani's album More than Ever.

In addition to working with his trio he performed with musicians such as Roy Haynes, Michael Brecker, David Liebman, Jean Toussaint, Rick Margitza, Marcus Miller, Kenny Garrett, Lenny White, Chris Potter, John Abercrombie, Lew Soloff, Elisabeth Kontomanou, JD Walter, Sam Newsome and Richard Bona and was at times the pianist Harry Belafonte.

2000 PILC was awarded the Prix Django Reinhardt as the best jazz musicians of France.
