Jean Monnet Programme

The Jean Monnet Programme, also known as Jean Monnet Project, an initiative of the European Union to include teaching, research and reflection on European integration at higher education institutions should be encouraged. It is named after Jean Monnet (1888-1979), which is for many, a chief architect of European integration.

Overview

The program includes the network of Jean Monnet Centres of Excellence, institutions at university level, which are recognized by the European Commissions for high quality research and teaching in relation to European integration. Furthermore, the Commission Jean Monnet Chairs and Jean Monnet Modules financed.

The program was launched in 1989 for the first time and judge between 1990-2011 162 Jean Monnet Centres of Excellence, 875 Chairs and Teaching Modules 1101 worldwide in 72 countries and five continents. To achieve the projects attended 1,500 high school teachers, each year about 500,000 students. Jean Monnet projects are selected by peer review audit by independent professional colleagues for their scientific importance. The projects are carried out in strict compliance with the principle of freedom of research and teaching.
