Jean Passerat

Jean Passerat (* October 18, 1534 in Troyes, † September 14, 1602 in Paris) was a French writer and poet.

Passerat studied at the University of Paris and taught first at the Collège de Plessis. In 1572 he became professor of Latin at the Collège de France. He wrote comments on Catullus, Tibullus and Propertius and some Latin -language works, including the two-volume kalendae januariae et varia quaedam Poemata, which appeared in 1606 in the print here.

Became known as Passerat lead author of the 1594 published satire Ménippée (La satyrs Ménippée de la vertu du Catholicon d' Espagne ). As a poet he wrote some famous poems, including Ode You Premier jour de mai and J'ai perdu ma Villanelle tourterelle. A well-known political poem was Sur la journée de Senlis.
