Jean-Paul van Poppel

Jean -Paul van Poppel ( born September 30, 1962 in Tilburg ) is a Dutch former racing cyclist and current sports director.

Cycling career

Jean -Paul van Poppel was a professional racing driver from 1985 to 1995 During this time he numerous stage wins arrive at the grand tours. ; alone in the Tour de France, he won nine stages. In 1988 he won the Tour in four stages, the highest number of stage wins in a tour that ever managed a Dutchman. At the Tour in 1987 he won the green jersey. In 1987, he won the Ronde van Midden- Zeeland and 1992, the eight- van Chaam.

Professional

After the end of his active career van Poppel worked as sports director in the women's cycling and he was Athletic until the end of 2010 Head of the Cervelo Test Team. From the Dutch Olympic Comite he was awarded the Olympic Coach Award.

Family

Van Poppel is married to Mirjam Melchers racer. His sons from his first marriage, and Danny Boy van Poppel, are also cyclists.
