Jean-Philippe Gatien

Jean -Philippe Gatien ( born October 16, 1968 in Alès ) is a French former table tennis player ( left-handed ) and was in the 1990s one of the best players in the world. It was founded in 1993 by a playoff victory over Jean-Michel Saive world champion.

Youth

Jean -Philippe Gatiens career was encouraged by his father René ( † 2000 at the age of 66 years ), who played table tennis and was President of the French league. In 1981 Jean- Philippe Gatien visited the National Sports Institute ( Institut National du Sport ) in Paris, from which he graduated with the commercial college.

As a teenager he was in 1985 and 1986 Vice European Champion with the French team. From 1988 to 2002 he won the national championship 13 times in singles, eight times in a double and two in mixed doubles. In 1988 he won with his club Levallois UTT in the European Nancy Evans Cup.

Adult

He was second in the 1992 Olympics ( set as world number to number 1 ) and 2000 third in the men's singles double. In 1993 he became world champion in men's singles, 1997, he won the European ranking tournament Europe TOP - 12th Men's Team: World Cup: 3rd place (1995 ), 2nd place (1997), European champion in 1994 and 1998 and in 1990 in the Mixed ( with Wang Xiaoming ).

Jean -Philippe Gatien has ended his athletic career on 15 May 2004 due to numerous injuries.

Private

Jean -Philippe Gatien has a 5 year older brother. Since August 6, 1994, he is married to Nathalie.
