Jean Richard

Jean Richard ( born April 18, 1921 in Bessines, † December 12, 2001 in Senlis ) was a French actor, director and ringmaster, a popular comedian in the movie, in later years a respected character in the Star series television.

Life and work

Richard began his career in 1939 as a comic book artist and cartoonist, and changed when the war ended in 1945 the theater when he staged several plays in occupied Germany. In 1947 he attended the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique and entered into the subsequent period of nearly three decades ( to 1976 ) long on the stage on. In the early postwar years had Richard in Paris in one way or another French film production. Richard finally returned in 1950 to his native land, was presenter of revues in the Parisian cabaret ' L' amiral ' and stepped in front of the now regularly film camera.

Jean Richards strength lay mainly in comedic compartment, where he rose to numerous supporting secondary and a few lead roles. 1959 and 1961 he also gave guest performances in the ( federal ) German film. Richard often played bauer clever characters, without recorded them as dumb village idiot. Jean Richards love was, however, especially the ring: since 1955 he had his own circus, with whom he (also Germany ) were numerous guest performances in Germany and abroad.

Known far beyond the borders of his home country, it has been the most versatile singer in particular the role of pfeifeschmauchenden Inspector Maigret, which he embodied in a long-lived television series since 1967. Some episodes ran in the Federal Republic of Germany in 1972 in the ARD and ZDF in 1979-1984. 1988 Maigret several sequences in GDR television were broadcast.

Outside of the show business, Richard has made a name as a committed campaigner for animal welfare in particular.
