Jean Tirole

Jean Tirole ( born August 9, 1953) is a French economist and is particularly concerned with the industrial economics. Tirole attended the École Polytechnique and the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris. He earned a doctorate degree in 1978 at the University of Paris -Dauphine in mathematics and a Ph.D. in 1981 from MIT in economics. After professorships at the École Polytechnique, the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées and at MIT, he took over the scientific management of the IDEI University of Toulouse I. His fame he owes not least the textbook Industrial Economics (1999). In 2011 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Mannheim.
