Jean Titelouze

Jean ( Jehan ) Titelouze (* 1563 in Saint- Omer, † October 24, 1633 in Rouen ) was a French organist and composer.

He was educated in his native town and in Douai organist and worked from 1585 in Rouen, where he rose in 1610 to the canon.

He is also referred to as the founder of the French organ music, as he created one of the first music specifically for this instrument. Thus, the separation of organ music and music for other keyboard instruments began.

He became known as an improviser and theoretician, his most famous work was his collection Hymnes de l' Eglise.
