Jean Vuarnet

Jean Vuarnet ( born January 18, 1933 Le Bardo, Tunis ) is a French former alpine skier.

The greatest success of his career as an athlete celebrated Vuarnet at the Olympic Winter Games in 1960 in Squaw Valley, when he became Olympic champion in the downhill. Previously, he had won at the Alpine World Skiing Championships in 1958 in Bad Gastein the bronze medal in the downhill. From 1957 to 1959 Vuarnet was seven times French champion - twice each in the downhill, slalom and combined, and once in the giant slalom.

After his playing career was Vuarnet 1962-1971 Vice- President of the French Ski Federation ( FFS). Later he founded a successful company for sportswear. 1961 Jean Vuarnet concluded an agreement with the French optician and eyewear maker Roger Pouilloux to market a Sonnenbrillencollektion under the brand name of his surnames: Vuarnet. In the 80s Vuarnet sunglasses were the biggest competitor to Mitbwerber Ray -Ban on the U.S. market.
