Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert

Jeanine Hennis- Plasschaert Antoinette (born 7 April 1973 in Heerlen ) is a Dutch politician of the liberal Volkspartij voor de Vrijheid Democracy (VVD ). She is Dutch defense minister since 2012.

Life

After her schooling at St. Anthony School in Gouda she studied at the American Academy in Utrecht and was subsequently employed by the European Commission.

Since the 2004 European election was Hennis- Plasschaert VVD MPs in the European Parliament, where a member of the liberal ALDE group. In the European elections 2009, she was re-elected. As MEP Hennis- Plasschaert was initially a member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism and since 2007 in the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs. Here she was the rapporteur responsible for the controversial Swift agreement, which was rejected on her suggestion on 11 February 2010 by the European Parliament with 378 to 196 votes.

In the Dutch 2010 parliamentary elections Hennis- Plasschaert reached a seat in the Second Chamber of the States General, and then submitted their mandate in the European Parliament down. Since November 5, 2012, she is the first female Minister of Defence of the Netherlands in the Cabinet Rutte II

Hennis- Plasschaert is married since 27 September 2003 Erik -Jan Hennis.
