The Jebil National Park covers an area of ​​1,500 square kilometers, which he represents the largest protected area of Tunisia. It is located south of a large salt pan, the Chott el Jerid. The National Park consists of 85 % of sand dunes, the rest of the area is dominated by desert steppes. Domestic larger mammals are the Dorcas gazelle and the gazelle endangered dunes. Originally native species, which the park could provide potential habitat, the scimitar-horned oryx and the Addax. The latter has now been settled in large fenced areas of Jebil National Park. In 2007, 15 Addax from the Bou- Hedma National Park and thirteen others from zoos were introduced. The number grew to 45 animals in October 2010.
