JEDEC

The JEDEC Solid State Technology Association ( JEDEC short ) is an American organization for the standardization of semiconductors. It was formerly called Joint Electron Device Engineering Council.

The JEDEC is a member of the Electronic Industries Alliance ( EIA) and has even more than 300 semiconductor manufacturers as a member.

History

The history of the JEDEC begins in 1924 with the founding of Associated Radio Manufacturers ( ARM), which provided for 50 radio producers a committee to standardize around the radio production (including price-fixing cartel ) in Chicago. The ARM was ( RMA) renamed Radio Manufacturers Association a few weeks later, the forerunner of the EIA. 1926 another organization, the National Association of Electrical Manufacturers (NEMA ) was established, together with the RMA founded the Joint Electron Tube Engineering Council ( JETEC ) 1944. In 1950, in response to the growing popularity of television, the RMA was for Radio Television Manufacturers Association ( RTMA ), which already dealt with semiconductors. 1953 followed the next adjustment to the development by the name was converted into radio Electronics Television Manufacturers Association ( RETMA ). In 1956 came a department that dealt only with semiconductors. 1957 RETMA then became the Electronic Industries Alliance ( EIA), to document the all-encompassing claim on the electronics. 1958 JETEC was split into two bodies and renamed Joint Electron Device Engineering Council ( JEDEC ), with the one as JEDEC Tube Council dealt with the conventional tubes and the other as JEDEC Semiconductor Council with semiconductors. After 1965 a sub- committee had taken care of the microelectronics, were merged both 1970 Solid State Products Division ( SSPD ). In 1977, the tubes were spun, it was the Electron Tube Panel Advisory Council ( TEPAC ). The majority of the Council was thus history, but the NEMA withdrew from financing.

In March 1998, the body was transferred to a division of the EIA and renamed the JEDEC Solid State Technology Division. In November of the same year was an equal society with the currently final name JEDEC Solid State Technology Association of the department. It is under the umbrella of EIA equal footing with companies such as Consumer Electronics Association (CEA ), the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA ), Electronic Components and Assemblies, Equipment and Supplies Association (ECA) and Government Division and the Electronic Information Group ( GEIA ).

Tasks

The JEDEC has drawn a wide variety of tasks in itself, among other things:

  • Standardization of certain memory modules for computer memory (RAM), such as SDRAM or DDR SDRAM
  • Standardization of interfaces (physical and logical) of electronic components
  • Standardization of housings for electronic components
  • Quality standards with test procedures
  • Standardization of new technologies in the " lead-free production "
  • JEDEX sale shows for electronics manufacturers
  • Standardization for Solid State Drives
