Jeepers Creepers (song)

Jeepers Creepers ( expression of astonishment, Eng. Corruption of the expression Jesus Christ! ) Is a song that was written by Harry Warren for the American musical comedy Going Places in 1938. The lyrics of the song is by Johnny Mercer. The song was first recorded by Louis Armstrong for the film; it came in Armstrong Vinyl version in February 1939 in the U.S. charts (# 12). It was covered by many other artists and became a jazz standard. The song was nominated in 1939 for Best Song Oscar in the category.

Background

The song is in the movie Going Places by gift horse trainer, played by Louis Armstrong, used to make an eponymous, Bronco rittbar. The horse trainers supposedly wrote the song specifically for the horse.

In preparation for writing the lyrics Mercer Henry Fonda heard " Jeepers Creepers " call; that was the starting point for the further text, a praise of the eyes of the loved ones for him.

For Harry Warren, it was the second Oscar nomination, after winning the Oscar for Lullaby of Broadway, for the first Mercer. The song was used in the version by Paul Whiteman and his Swing Wing for the same horror movie Jeepers Creepers from the year 2001.

The song has been widely gecovert, so Al Donahue, who like Larry Clinton 1938, so the charts: 13 Weeks stayed Donahue's interpretation No. 1 on the Billboard Pop Charts. This was followed by Billie Holiday, Bing Crosby, Dave Brubeck, Frank Sinatra and Les McCann. Tom Lord lists only 307 versions in the field of jazz.
