Jef Demuysere

Joseph " Jef " Demuysere ( born July 26, 1907 in Wervik, † April 30, 1969 in Antwerp) was a Belgian racing cyclist.

Jef Demuysere was professional racing drivers of 1929 until 1939. 1926 he won Paris -Arras and 1927, the Tour of Flanders in the class of independents. In 1929, he won Paris- Longwy, 1930 at the Circuit de Morbihan, 1932 at Omloop the Vlaamse Gewesten. Also in 1932 he became Belgian champion in cyclo-cross races and 1935 national runner-up in the road race. A highlight of his career was winning Milan - Sanremo in 1934.

Four times Demuysere started in the Tour de France and finished every time a place among the top ten in 1929 he finished third and won a stage, 1930 Fourth, in 1931, he finished second and won two stages and 1932 eighth. 1932 and 1933, he came second in the Giro d' Italia. In 1934 he was ranked eleventh. Twice he was sixth at Paris- Roubaix.

On the 100th birthday of Jef Demuysere numerous celebrations took place in his hometown. A sculpture of him was unveiled by the cyclist Willy Kanis.
