Jeff Halper

Jeff Halper ( born 1946 in Minnesota) is an American- Israeli peace activist and author.

Halper worked as a professor of anthropology at the University of Haifa and Beersheba. In 1997 he was co-founder of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions ( ICAHD ). He is one of the main organizers of the Free Gaza Initiative and member of the founding committee of the Russell Tribunal on Palestine. In 2006 he was nominated by the American Friends Service Committee for the Nobel Peace Prize; In 2009 he received together with Luís Flávio CappioArchive the " Kant World Citizen Award" by Freiburger Kant Foundation for his " courageous advocacy of politically and socially marginalized groups ."

Halper is the author of several books on the Middle East conflict, and he writes and speaks frequently about Israeli policy; while he focuses mainly on non-violent strategies to resolve the conflict.
