Jeff McLean (ice hockey)

Jeffrey McLean ( born October 6, 1969 in Vancouver, British Columbia ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player. During his career he played for the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League and the Kassel Huskies in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga.

Career

McLean played during his junior career in both the British Columbia Junior Hockey League and in the leagues of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. First, he played in the 1986/87 season at the Richmond Sockeye and Langley Eagles in the BCJHL. For the season 1987/88 he moved to the University of North Dakota, but returned after only one year to British Columbia and played with the New Westminster Royals. At the end of the football year, the center was named Most Valuable Player of the BCJHL after he had scored 161 points in 60 games. He then went for three years until the summer of 1992 returned to the University of North Dakota and finished his college education. The previous year, he was chosen by the newly established San Jose Sharks in NHL Supplemental Draft in 1991 at the first overall position.

Before the beginning of the season 1992/93 McLean signed his first professional contract, but was for the next two years, first mainly in farm team of the San Jose Sharks, the used Kansas City Blades of the International Hockey League. During the 1993/94 season the Canadians then was given the opportunity in six games for the Sharks in the National Hockey League aground. He was able to achieve his only NHL goal. In subsequent years, McLean continued to play for the Kansas City Blades, as well as the Kalamazoo Wings, Cincinnati Cyclones and Fort Wayne Komets. In the summer of 1997, he then moved for a year to Europe, where he played for the Kassel Huskies in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. For the 1998/99 season he returned to North America. There he played for two years in the East Coast Hockey League and American Hockey League, before he ended his career at the end of season 1999 /00.
