Jefferson County (Kansas)

Jefferson County is a county located in the state of Kansas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Oskaloosa.

Geography

The County is located in northeast Kansas, in the north about 70 miles from Nebraska, in the northeast about 15 miles from Missouri and has an area of ​​1442 square kilometers, of which 54 square kilometers are water surface. History

Jefferson County was formed on 25 August 1855 as original county of the Kansas Territory, and is among the first 33 counties that were formed by the first territorial administration. It was named after Thomas Jefferson, the third U.S. president.
