Jefferson Davis Parish, Louisiana
The Jefferson Davis Parish (French: Paroisse de Jefferson Davis) is a parish located in the state of Louisiana in the United States. In 2010, the Parish had 31 594 inhabitants and a population density of 18.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat) is Jennings.
Geography
The Parish is located in southwest Louisiana, is located about 60 km to the west of Texas, located in the south about 40 km from the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of 1706 square kilometers, of which 16 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following Parishes:
History
The Jefferson Davis Parish was formed in 1912 from portions of Calcasieu Parish. It was named after Jefferson Davis, the first and only President of the Confederate States of America.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Jefferson Davis Parish 31 435 people in 11,480 households and 8,529 families. The population density was 19 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 80.60 percent White, 17.79 percent Black or African American, 0.38 percent Native American, 0.19 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.20 percent from other races groups; 0.82 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.99 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 11,480 households out of which 37.2 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 56.8 percent were married couples living together, 13.7 percent were single mothers, 25.7 percent were non-families, 22.6 percent of all households and 10.7 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size was 3.18.
In relation to the parish the population was spread out 29.3 percent of residents under the age of 18, 9.1 percent between 18 and 24 years, 27.3 percent between 25 and 44 years, 21.0 percent between 45 and 64 years and 13.3 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 92.5 males statistically. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.5 males.
The median income for a household was $ 27,736, and the median income for a family was $ 33,129. Males have a median income of $ 28,279, women $ 18,668. The per capita income was $ 13,398. 18.1 percent of families 20.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 25.4 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 19.9 percent of those 65 years.
