Jefferson Market Library

The Jefferson Market Courthouse was built in 1874-1877 by architects Frederick Clark Withers and Calvert Vaux and is located in New York's Greenwich Village. The building was chosen in an architectural survey in 1880 among the ten most beautiful buildings in the United States.

Architecture

The architecture is based on European models and belongs to the era of historicism. Romanesque and Gothic elements were blended. Castle-like turrets appear at the corners.

Use

The house was used until 1945 as a courthouse and now houses the Jefferson Market Library, a library.
