Jeffrey Nape

Jeffrey Nape CMG ( born 1951 ) is a politician of New Guinea papua.

Biography

Nape began his political career with the election of the members of the meeting house ( House of Assembly ). On 28 May 2004 he was elected to succeed Bill Skate as the Speaker of Parliament (Speaker of Parliament ).

Linked to this was also the office of the incumbent Governor-General ( Acting Governor -General ), since the Office of the Governor General had been vacant since the resignation of Governor General Sir Silas Atopare on 20 November 2003 and shall be exercised in such cases by the Constitution of parliamentary speaker. On June 29, 2004, he handed the office to the newly appointed Governor General Paulias Matane.

After the general elections in 2007, he was re-elected as Speaker of Parliament on 13 August 2007 and was able to voting with 86 to 22 votes prevail against the opposition candidate Bart Philemon. On the same day he was sworn in by Governor-General Sir Paulias Matane.

On March 10, 2010, there was an uproar in Parliament, as Nape a motion of censure of the opposition deputies Sam Basil, the support of Bart Philemon and a backbenchers of the ruling coalition, Thompson Harokaqveh, got rejected as inadmissible because, in his view towards Parliament President such a vote of no confidence is inadmissible. Due to the resignation request of Basil was the poor condition of the parliament building in relation to the toilets, air conditioning and bad food in the canteen of the parliament and the not perceived remedy, is responsible for the loud Basil the Speaker of Parliament. The behavior of Nape there was also rejected by the former Prime Minister and current Governor of New Ireland Province, Julius Chan, as illegitimate.

From December 13 2010 to December 20, 2010 Jeffery Nape was the second time acting Governor-General.
