Jeffrey Tate

He studied (despite congenital disabilities such as spina bifida and kyphosis ) first medicine at the University of Cambridge ( 1961-64 ) and was a specialist in ophthalmology. He worked as an eye surgeon at St Thomas 's Hospital in London. Later, he gave up his clinical career and studied music at the London Opera Centre. His musical career began as an assistant to Herbert von Karajan in Salzburg and James Levine at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In 1976, he was assistant to Pierre Boulez at Bayreuth ' Ring century '.

Jeffrey Tate conducts today 's leading opera houses and festivals in the world a wide repertoire with emphasis on the works of Strauss, Mozart, Wagner and French operas.

Jeffrey Tate has been chief conductor of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra. He has successfully worked with the following orchestras: London Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, English Chamber Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic and the Orchestre National de France.
