Jeffreys Bay ( Afrikaans: Jeffreysbaai; short J- Bay) is a coastal city in South Africa.

Geography

The city is located west of Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape along the Garden Route and south of the N2 highway. 2011, the city had 27,107 inhabitants. Jeffreys Bay is the seat of the municipal administration of the municipality of Kouga, Cacadu District.

Development

Jeffreys Bay was founded in 1849. The name is derived from JA Jeffreys, a whaler, who ran a shop at this point. Originally a sleepy fishing village is now a popular tourist destination in the city - especially for surfers - become. Outside the high season Jeffreys Bay is very quiet.
