The Jegenstorf Castle is a castle in the municipality Jegenstorf in Canton Bern, Switzerland.

History

The year of death of Berthold II of Zahringen (1111 ) is often mentioned in publications on Jegenstorf Castle as legendary, but not detectable date the construction of the original water castle. In the 12th century, possessed by the Lords of Jegistorf, the followers of Zähringers were, the estate, and later went shares in this rule in the possession of the families Buwli, von Erlach, Frieso, Gloggner, Schwanden, Spilmann of Torberg and Zigerli over. After the family of Erlach from 1519 was the sole owner went Jegenstorf 1584 was sold to the family of Bonstetten and was inherited by Wattenwyls. 1720, the original castle for Albrecht Friedrich von Erlach was rebuilt in a baroque country house. The Jegenstorf Castle was in the autumn of 1944 until the summer of 1945, the headquarters of the Commander in Chief of the Swiss Army in World War II, General Guisan. 1955, the association founded the Stiftung Schloss Jegenstorf who is the owner of the domain since then and operates the Museum of Bern's living culture from the 17th to the 19th century. Collection

The extensive collections include furniture Matthew Orchestra, his brother Johann Friedrich Funk ( I. ) and his son Johann Friedrich Funk ( II ), Christoph hop gardener, John Äbersolds and Carl Franz Hossfelds. The castle rooms will host the largest exhibition of Bernese portraits. This includes important works of the painter Joseph Werner, John Dünz, Johann Rudolf Huber, Jacob Emanuel hand man, Johann Ludwig Aberli, Joseph Esperlin, Pierre- Nicolas Legrand and Johann Friedrich Dietler. In the palace interiors are numerous Bernese marble fireplaces and tiled stoves from all over Switzerland. Most of fireplace mantels ( Rosenlaui marble, Zwelütschinen marble, marble Merligen ) come from the workshop of Johann Friedrich Radio ( I). Permanent exhibitions poet Rudolf von Tavel, the educators and economists Philipp Emanuel Fell mountain and the Economic Society of Bern, enriched the collection. In the cave of the big pond to the south is the cast iron statue The Bathers, after 1767 presented in Salon original by the French sculptor Christophe- Gabriel Allegrain ( 1710-1795 ).
