Jehan de Braine

John Braine, or John of Dreux (* 1198, † November 1239 in Palestine ) was a Count of Vienne and Mâcon ( jure uxoris ).

Johann was a younger son of Robert II, Count of Dreux and Braine, and Yolande of Coucy. Between the years 1218 and 1227 he married Countess Alix of Vienne and Mâcon († 1260 ).

Johann worked as Trouvère, four songs have been handed down from him. He took in 1218 in the crusade of Damietta (5th Crusade ), and in 1226 the Albigensian Crusade of King Louis VIII part. 1238 he and his wife agreed the sale of 10,000 livres tournois for Macon and an annual pension of 1,000 livre tournois of the French crown. Part of the money used to fund its participation in the Johann crusade of the barons, on which he probably died in November 1239. His wife sold Vienne after his death to her aunt Beatrix.
