The Jeju World Cup Stadium ( Kor.: 제주 월드컵 경기장 ) is a football stadium in the South Korean city of Seogwipo on the island - province of Jeju -do.
History
On 20 February 1999, the construction of the arena began; that was built as one of ten South Korean stages of the FIFA World Cup 2002 in Japan and South Korea. On 9 December 2001, the sports facility was inaugurated by then 42 256 seats. The double-deck grandstand and part Located behind the are covered by a crescent-shaped roof structure. The roof, with its glass-fiber reinforced PTFE membrane and an area of 16,000 square meters is suspended on six poles with steel cables. Three games of the World Cup took place in Seogwipo. After the World Cup, the capacity was reduced and today it offers viewers still 35,657 places. The stadium served in 2007 as one of eight venues of the U-17 World Cup.
Since 2006, the K League Classic football franchise Jeju United plays its home matches at the Jeju World Cup Stadium.
