Jenette Goldstein
Jenette Elise Goldstein ( born February 4, 1960 in Beverly Hills ) is an American film and theater actress.
Life and work
Goldstein grew up in the slums of Beverly Hills. At a young age she decided to become an actress. First experience she gained in acting classes at the Beverly Hills High School and later at the University of California, Santa Barbara. There followed a training at Circle in the Square Theatre in New York City.
After she married a British veterinarian, the couple moved together to London. There she completed a one-year postgraduate study at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art At the same time, she worked increasingly with women's bodybuilding, on which they became aware in Hyam 's Gym in East London first.
Her first film appearance was Goldstein in James Cameron's sci-fi movie Aliens - The Return where she played the elite soldier Private Vasquez. In casting, she thought at first that it was a film about emigration ( aliens = foreigner, stranger ). There, she was wearing a sleeveless blouse and steeled her upper arms finally tipped the scales in that they received the role of Vasquez. This role made her famous overnight, as they previously reserved for men roles of action hero took over along with Sigourney Weaver as the first actresses. In a review of the Alien films, the critic Anne Flower ruled in 1998 the role of Vasquez remain although largely reduced to the military, however, was remarkably as well-trained, muscle-bound " Super Amazone " significantly more resistant than their male comrades:
" In the further course of action Vasquez falls then the Rambo role (even visually: headband, bare arms and a lot of these ridiculously oversized weapons in front of the body ). Goldstein himself just saw Cameron's focus on female action hero as "groundbreaking " and understood the film whatsoever as feminist work. For her role as Vasquez, she received the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress in the same year. James Cameron was impressed by Goldstein's work and occupied it again later in his films Terminator 2 - Judgment Day and Titanic. In the latter, Cameron cast her as an Irish mother who travels as emigrant on the Titanic - an obvious allusion to the misunderstanding of the Alien casting.
In Star Trek: Generations, she appeared in 1994 as a science officer of the Enterprise B.
Since the late 1990s, Goldstein joined primarily on only in TV series. They also took on roles in the theater, as in Arthur Miller's After the Fall ( After the Fall ).
In 2009, she founded her company Jenette Bras, with whom she produced bras in sizes and markets.
