Jennie Tourel

Jennie Tourel (* 9.jul / June 22 1900greg in Vitebsk as Jennie Davidovich, .. † November 23, 1973 in New York) was an American mezzo-soprano and singing teacher of Russian-Jewish origin.

Life

Jennie Tourel first learned to play the flute, but then studied piano. After the October Revolution, the family left Russia and initially settled in the vicinity of Gdansk, however, shot later to Paris, where Jennie Tourel received her first singing lessons.

Its European operatic debut she was at the Opéra Russe in Paris in 1931, she sang at the Met since 1937. This year it was, immediately before the Germans occupied Paris, via Lisbon emigrated to the United States. In 1946 she became an American citizen.
