Jennifer Lash

Jennifer Lash ( born February 27, 1938 in Chichester, † 28 December 1993 Odstock, Wiltshire ) was a British artist and writer and the mother of actor Ralph Fiennes and Joseph Fiennes, and director Martha Fiennes.

In 1961 she published her first novel The Burial. In 1962 she married the photographer Mark Fiennes and lived with him and their seven children ( six physical, an adoptive son ) in Suffolk, Wiltshire, Ireland and London.

In 1986, she learned of her breast cancer. After surgery, she went on a pilgrimage from England to France to Santiago de Compostela (Spain).

Lash died on 28 December 1993 at the age of 55 years with her family in Odstock, Wiltshire. The funeral took place on their special request by the family Fiennes itself: the self-made, blue -painted coffin was driven in a VW bus to the cemetery, and the children carried the coffin to the grave.

Jennifer Lash's last book, Blood Ties was published posthumously.
