Jennifer Warnes

Jennifer Jean Warnes ( born March 3, 1947 in Seattle, Washington ) is an American singer.

Life

Raised in Orange County ( California), Warnes started ' career already in their childhood. In 1967, she appeared in a television series for the first time as a pop singer. Soon after, she starred in Los Angeles a lead role in the musical Hair. Bert Sommer wrote it for his song Jennifer, after he had met her at Hair.

My first studio recording was a duet with Mason Williams, with whom she has become a recognized force in the club scene of Los Angeles. As a solo artist Warnes in 1972 on an album for Parrot Records and Reprise Records, which sold poorly. In 1975, she joined the record label and signed with Arista Records. With their new label they had 1977 Right Time of the Night a Top 10 hit in 1979 and another with I Know A Heartache When I See One.

During the 1980s it gradually became known as a singer. For It Goes like it Goes ( the title song of the film Norma Rae ) in 1980, she won an Oscar in the Best Original Song category. Then they sang, composed by Randy Newman Title One More Hour, before with Up Where We Belong, a duet with Joe Cocker An Officer and a Gentleman, finally had her breakthrough film for the 1982/83. This was followed by film songs like Nights are Forever and All The Right Moves, which she recorded with Chris Thompson, the former lead singer of Manfred Mann's Earth Band.

Another number 1 had with Bill Medley and the Dirty Dancing title ( I've Had ) The Time of My Life 1987. She worked for other albums along with a variety of international artists such as Leonard Cohen, Richard Thompson, Van Dyke Parks, Donald Fagen, Jackson Browne, John Prine, Tanita Tikaram, Harry Belafonte and Stephen Burton. Also in 1987, she released the hit single First we take Manhattan, one written by Leonard Cohen title, this short time for his own album I'm Your Man resumed later.

Collaboration with Leonard Cohen

With the Canadian composer and poet Leonard Cohen Jennifer Warnes a close friendship. The two got to know in 1970 and went in 1972 and 1979 on tour together. To date, Jennifer Warnes has contributed to six of Cohen's albums. In 1986 she started a whole album with Cohen songs on: Famous Blue Raincoat - The Songs of Leonard Cohen. This album is a master piece of their career, it reached platinum status. Famous Blue Raincoat also contains a duet by Cohen and Warnes: Joan of Arc, a dialogue between Joan of Arc and the fire of the pyre on which it is burned. Leonard Cohen commented on Warnes as follows: "If you want to hear what a woman is thinking, if you want to hear what a woman sounds like today, listen to Jennifer Warnes. " ( German: "If you want to hear what a woman thinks if you want to hear how a woman sounds today, you hear Jennifer Warnes on. " )
