Jennings County, Indiana

Jennings County is a county located in the state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Vernon.

Geography

The County is located in southeastern Indiana, is about 40 km away from Kentucky and has an area of 980 square kilometers, of which three square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Decatur County, Ripley County, Jefferson County, Scott County, Jackson County and Bartholomew County.

History

Jennings County was formed on December 27, 1816 from parts of Jackson County and Jefferson County. It was named after Jonathan Jennings, first governor of Indiana.
