Jens-Daniel Herzog

Jens -Daniel Herzog ( born July 12, 1963 in Berlin ) is a German theater and opera director and manager.

Life

Jens- Daniel Herzog is the son of actor Peter Herzog. After studying philosophy at the Free University Berlin went Jens- Daniel Herzog in 1990 as assistant director of the Munich Studio Theater, where he accompanied several productions by the director Dieter Dorn, including its King Lear (1992). In 1993, Duke debut staging the world premiere of Marlene Streeruwitz ' slice of New York, New York, in the workroom of the Munich Studio Theater premiere. This first work as a director Duke was invited to the Mülheim Theatre Days. In 1994, he staged Simone Schneider National gallery and the night just before the forests of Bernard -Marie Koltès.

From 2000 to 2006 he was acting director of the National Theatre Mannheim, where he was also the operas of Mozart 's Così fan tutte and The Abduction from the Seraglio and staged Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.

After the end of his time in Mannheim, Herzog devoted mainly of opera direction and staged at the Zurich Opera, the State Theatre Mainz, the South Korean National Theater in Seoul, the Nuremberg State Theatre, the days of Ancient Music Innsbruck, the Hamburg State Opera and in turn the National Theatre Mannheim. Dramatic productions originated at the Bavarian State Theatre in Munich and the Badische Staatstheater Karlsruhe.

2008 Herzog moved to the Zurich production of Handel's opera Rinaldo the scene from the time of the Crusades in an airport lounge. The performance, conducted by William Christie was recorded on DVD. Also in 2008 he staged in Zurich, the rarely performed " bourgeois comedy" Intermezzo by Richard Strauss. His first work at the Semperoper in 2009 was Handel's Giulio Cesare in Egitto. At the Frankfurt Opera, he directed Wagner's Lohengrin.

Since autumn 2011, Jens- Daniel Herzog 's Artistic Director of the Opera Dortmund. There he staged Wagner's The Flying Dutchman, directed by Jac van Steen, with Andreas Macco in the title role and Christiane Kohl as Senta. In March 2012, he brought in Dortmund Felix Mendelssohn's oratorio Elijah in a staged version of the stage. For the end of 2012 the premiere of his production of Monteverdi 's opera The Coronation of Poppea is provided in Dortmund.
