Jens Ferdinand Willumsen

Jens Ferdinand Willumsen ( born September 7, 1863 in Copenhagen, † April 4, 1958 in Cannes) was a Danish painter and sculptor.

1881-1885 He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. For a stay in France 1890-1894 he came into contact with Paul Gauguin and turned to the symbolism to. In 1900, Willumsen won a poster competition of the Copenhagen Tuborg Brewery. However, the manager of the brewery at hand instead of the winning design on a subject of the painter Erik Henningsen, which as " The thirsty man " became world-famous later.

Since 1957, shows the J. F. Willumsen Museum in Frederikssund the works of the artist.
