Jens Nowotny

Jens Nowotny in 2006

Jens Nowotny ( born January 11, 1974 in Malsch ) is a retired German football player at the position of the defender. Most recently, he was at Dinamo Zagreb under contract.

Career

Nowotny played as a teenager at SV Spielberg (1979-1985) and FC Germania Friedrichstal ( 1985-1990 ). During this time he went up to the 10th grade to high school in Carlsbad Langensteinbach ( district of Karlsruhe ) to school, made after an apprenticeship as a wholesale merchant and was retired due to a cruciate ligament injury as unfit by the Bundeswehr.

Jens Nowotny serves on the Board of Trustees of the youth football foundation. The Youth Soccer Foundation was established in 2000 by Jürgen Klinsmann, another successful national team as well as the lecturers of the football coach - special course.

Club career

Karlsruher SC

Nowotny played from 1990 for six years with Karlsruher SC, before joining Bayer 04 Leverkusen in summer 1996.

Bayer Leverkusen

On April 30, 2002, he was injured in the semifinals of the Champions League, so to take part in the Football World Cup 2002 was not possible. End of career

In January 2007, Jens Nowotny retired from professional football. This was due to his recurring knee problems. He played 334 league games, scoring 11 goals. With eight dismissals in his career so far he holds the Bundesliga record of " Red Cards ".

On 8 October 2007, a testimonial match for Nowotny in Karlsruhe Wildlife Park stadium took place. In Kicking the German national team as My Summer Fairy and the KSC -Dream Team. In both of these teams participated current national team and colleagues from the German team in the 2006 World Cup.

Since 2009, Nowotny is sporting advisor at SC Fortuna Köln. He is co-owner of the agency Human Brands.

National

For the national Nowotny has 48 games disputed, in which he scored a goal. His debut in the national jersey he gave on 30 April 1997 in Bremen in a 2-0 win against Ukraine.

Nowotny took part in the European Football Championship in 2000 in the Netherlands and Belgium as well as in the European Championships in Portugal in 2004 with the German national team.

Due appealing performances in the second half of the Bundesliga, he was surprisingly invited by the then national coach Jürgen Klinsmann to the fitness test, which took place in Dusseldorf on 24 and 25 April 2006. On 15 May 2006 Nowotny was finally called by Klinsmann in the squad for the World Cup 2006.
