Jeptha D. New

Jeptha Dudley New ( born November 28, 1830 in Vernon, Jennings County, Indiana, † July 9, 1892 ) was an American politician.

New studied law, was admitted to the legal profession in 1851 and then practiced until 1864 in Vernon. 1852 to 1854 he was mayor of the city and from 1860 to 1864 Attorney of Jennings County. 1864-1869 New worked as a judge and then began practicing in Vernon again.

New was elected as a Democrat to the 44th Congress and represented there the fourth electoral district of the State of Indiana of March 4, 1875 to March 3, 1877 U.S. House of Representatives. However, a renewed candidacy in the election of 1876 he refused. Only two years later he presented himself for re-election and was one of 4 March 1879 to March 3, 1881 to now back the U.S. House of Representatives on. After his retirement from politics was New 1882-1888 Judge of the sixth judicial district of Indiana. In 1892 he was nominated the Democratic Party as a candidate for judge post on the Supreme Court of Indiana. However, New died before the election. He was buried in the Vernon Cemetery.
