Jeremiah B. Howell

Jeremiah Brown Howell ( born August 28, 1771 in Providence, Rhode Iceland, † February 5, 1822 ibid ) was an American politician who represented the state of Rhode Iceland in the U.S. Senate.

Born still colonial times in Providence Jeremiah Howell, whose father David Howell belonged as a delegate to the Continental Congress, was educated at private schools. He then attended the College of Rhode Iceland and Providence Plantations, today Brown University, where he made his degree in 1789. He subsequently studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1793 and commenced practice in Providence as a lawyer. He also joined the militia of Rhode Iceland and brought it there until the Brigadier General.

1810 Howell was elected as the successor of not more candidates Elisha Mathewson in the Senate of the United States. As a member of the Democratic-Republican Party, he took his seat in Washington on March 4, 1811 until March 3, 1817 true; during this time he was, among other things the board committee as chairman.
