Jeremiah Wadsworth

Jeremiah Wadsworth (* July 12, 1743 in Hartford, Connecticut, † April 30, 1804 ) was an American politician. Between 1789 and 1795 he represented the state of Connecticut in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Jeremiah Wadsworth grew up during the British colonial period. He attended the public schools of his home and went to sea from 1761 onwards. During the American Revolution he joined this movement and was 1775-1778 during the War of Independence procurement officer in the Continental Army. In 1788 he was elected to the Continental Congress. In the same year he was a member of the Assembly, which ratified the Constitution of the United States of Connecticut.

In the elections for the first congress, held all across the state of Connecticut, he was elected for the fifth parliamentary seat of his state in the U.S. House of Representatives. After two re- election he was able to complete three 1795 legislative sessions in Congress between 4 March 1789 and 3 March. In 1794 he gave up another candidacy.

After his time in the U.S. Congress Wadsworth was elected in 1795 in the House of Representatives from Connecticut. Between 1795 and 1801 he was a member of the Governing Council of his state. He also worked in agriculture. Jeremiah Wadsworth died on 30 April 1804 in his birthplace of Hartford.
