Jeremiah Wood

Jeremiah Wood ( September 1876 *, † January 16, 1962 in Hempstead, Nassau County, New York) was an American lawyer and politician ( Republican).

Career

Jeremiah Wood studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1900 and then began in New York City on practicing. He also pursued a political career. Wood was in 1912 a member of the New York State Assembly. Then he took in 1916 as a replacement delegate to the Republican National Convention in part.

In the gubernatorial election of 1920, he was elected as running mate of Nathan L. Miller for Lieutenant Governor of New York, a position which he held 1921-1922. On September 26, 1922 Wood resigned from the post to take up an appointment as a judge at the Administrative Court of New York. He filled the vacancy there, which was created by the resignation of William D. Cunningham.

Wood suffered a defeat in his 1925 run for the New York Supreme Court After he had 1927-1929 presided over the Nassau County Republican Committee.

He lived in North Lynbrook, New York, a community that he had created, when the village was founded in 1921 Malverne integrated in Hempstead. Wood did not want to live in the village, where he had to worry about higher taxes. To avoid this, he changed the boundaries of the new town so that his home was not included.
