Jeremiah Wright
Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. ( born September 22, 1941 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania ) is a former pastor of the " Trinity United Church of Christ " ( TUCC ), a large church in Chicago, Illinois, with over 10,000 members.
Career
Wright attended from 1959 to 1961, the Virginia Union University in Richmond.
1961 Wright left college, joined the Marine Corps ( USMC) of the United States of America and was part of the second division in the service rank of corporal. In 1963, after two years of service, he had himself transferred to the Navy and attended the medical school, which he left as his class with a degree. After his performance on the medical school, he completed - on another, specialized on Medical Military School of Marine - trained as a cardiopulmonary medical technician. Wright was assigned to the medical team that was tasked to ensure the health of President Lyndon B. Johnson. As Wright in 1967 gave up this position, the White House asked him already from three letters of commendation.
In 1967, Wright wrote at Howard University in Washington, DC and acquired in the next two years, 1968 and 1969, the Bachelor and Master's degree in English. He also obtained a Master of the University of Chicago Divinity School. Wright earned a doctorate in theology in 1990.
Early 2008, Wright went after 36 years as senior pastor of his church in retirement.
Controversies
Wright's preaching style and the content of some of his sermons were considered in conjunction with the then presidential candidate Barack Obama by the media, because of the controversial content in parts critical.
Obama said in his speech in Philadelphia " A More Perfect Union " and others on this subject and made it clear that the representation Wright in the media constitute only a small part of whose political opinion and therefore random a distorted picture to the public. One of the most controversial statements Wright " God damn America " part ( " God damn America" ). Wright himself substantiated his statement several times meaning that it thus American politics and the government, which has to answer for this policy mean. He graduated from explicitly that he meant the American people.
On 10 June 2009 he was asked Virginia's Daily Press whether he had spoken with Obama, since this president was, to which he replied, " them Jews is not gonna let him talk to me. " "They will not let him to talk to somebody who calls a spade what it is. I said ... from the beginning: He's a politician; I'm a pastor. . He's got to do what politicians do " ( in German as: " These Jews will not let him talk to me " " They will not let him talk to somebody who calls a spade a spade ... I've got from the beginning. to say: He is a politician, I am a pastor, he has to do what politicians do ").. .
