Jeremy Burgess

Jeremy Burgess ( born April 16, 1953 in Australia) is an Australian engineer and was involved as chief engineer of the motorcycle world championship driver Wayne Gardner, Mick Doohan and Valentino Rossi at the world titles.

Life

According to a national title as a rider on a Suzuki RG 500 Burgess was in the early 1980 Grand Prix mechanics and celebrates with Suzuki rider Randy Mamola first GP victory. In 1984, he switches to the Honda team of Freddie Spencer and Erv Kanemoto team boss. 1986 rose to Burgess as chief engineer at the Honda factory team.

Wayne Gardner was the first rider to win the world title in the class up to 500 cc with Burgess as a race engineer in 1987. There followed five titles with Mick Doohan von 1994 to 1998. According to Doohan's retirement from active racing Burgess Valentino Rossi led between 2001 and 2005 to also five consecutive titles in the premier class of motorcycle racing. 2008 and 2009 was followed by the sixth or seventh.

After nearly 20 years in the service of Honda Burgess in 2004 moved along with Rossi to Yamaha. For the 2011 season, he followed Rossi to Ducati. Burgess considered to be the mastermind in the background of Rossi's extraordinary successes.

In the 2013 season, Rossi moved to Yamaha again, and this time Burgess was succeeded as crew chief. In November 2013, after completion of the GP season Rossi the end of the collaboration was then known. Rossi called as a reason the desire for a new motivation, which will triggered by a new crew chief.

From Burgess comes the " 80:20 " theory, according to which 80 % of the success of a racing driver driving ability and 20 % represents the performance of the motorcycle.
