Geography

The most important water bodies in the district Jerichower country - besides the Elbe - the Elbe -Havel Canal, the Mittelland Canal, the Ehle, the Nuthe that Ihle and Tucheim - Parchener Bach. The county has a share of the flaming.

History

The county was first composed in 1994 by the union of the circles castle and Genthin and the community Mangelsdorf the circle Havel mountain. He continued the tradition of the old Prussian counties Jerichow I and II Jerichow.

In the district reform in Saxony -Anhalt 2007, this district was dissolved and formed a new, larger district with the same name. The southside of the new district consists of communities that had previously belonged to the district of Anhalt -Zerbst.

The seat distribution of the groups in the council after the election on April 22, 2007:

Chairman of the District Council is Otmar Fricke (CDU ), first deputy Helmut Halupka (SPD) and second deputy Michael Bremer (The Left ).

District is the non-party Lothar Finzelberg.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was the same Altlandkreis approved on 12 September 1995 by the Ministry of Home Affairs of Saxony- Anhalt. Since the county was formally disbanded on 1 July 2007 and re-established, the coat of arms had to be re- approved, this happened on February 5, 2008.

Blazon: " Split of blue and silver, the front a silver stake, behind a black and silver contoured rotbewehrter Crane. "

Colors of the district are white and blue.

The silver pole symbolizes the Elbe- Havel Canal as an important waterway of the Jerichower country, pointing out at the same time on the same circuit as the western border. The domiciled in the district Crane settled annually the Elbe and thus represents a symbol of landscape and nature

Flag

The flag was approved on 3 April 2008 by the Ministry of Home Affairs of Saxony- Anhalt.

The flag is white - blue ( 1:1) striped ( cross- shape: strips horizontally extending, longitudinal shape: strip running vertically ) and the center occupied by the county coat of arms.

The Jerichower country is now next to the Saalekreis and the district Borde one of the economically strongest counties of Saxony- Anhalt. On the one hand, the district benefits from its proximity to Magdeburg. Secondly, a steadily growing economy has developed especially in the room castle.

The priority areas are:

  • Paper industry (eg: Prowell, Propapier )
  • Furniture industry (eg: Burger Kitchen )

Traffic

The county town castle was - as Genthin - as early as 1846 connected with construction of the railway line between Berlin and Magdeburg by the Berlin- Potsdam- Magdeburg Railway Company to the mainline system. This company opened in 1874, the railway line Biederitz - Trebnitzgrund, resulting in Biederitz with the earlier united.

The first branch line was built by the Prussian state railways in 1892 and ran from Biederitz about Möckern to Loburg. There she found access to the extensive network of narrow-gauge light railways of the circle Jerichow I, starting, led in 1896 by the county town castle on two parallel lines, who united in Magdeburgerforth after Ziesar. The connection Luebars large - Loburg - Gommern followed in 1903. Due to the military training area in Altengrabow the route to the state railway to Loburg was developed as a three-rail track.

The narrow-gauge railway and power plant Pretzien GmbH was a narrow gauge railway, which served only to freight.

By Jerichower country also extend the BAB 2 and the Federal Highway 1, State Road 107, B246a.

Since 1995, found in the district Jerichower Land area many changes are taking place.

Of the original ten -governing communities is no more. At the same time, the number of municipalities was reduced to eight.
