Jerome Chen

Jerome Chen ( born 1919 in Chengdu, Sichuan / China) is a Chinese- Canadian historian.

Life

Jerome Chen studied during the anti-Japanese war at Nankai University in Tianjin and at the National Southwest Associated University and at the London School of Economics and Political Science. In the 1950s he worked for the BBC. Before he emigrated to Canada, he taught for a few years of history at the University of Leeds ( UK).

Chen was from 1971 to 1987 professor of Chinese history at York University in Toronto / Canada, and from 1983 to 1985 Director of the York University Joint Centre of Asia Pacific Studies.

In 1981 he became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and in 1984 he Distinguished Research Professor at York University.
