Jerónimo Lobo

Jerónimo Lobo (* 1593, † January 29, 1678 in Lisbon ) was a Portuguese explorer, Jesuit and missionary.

Life

Lobo came in 1609 when the Jesuits. In 1622 he went as a missionary to Goa. In 1624, he embarked on a first trip to Ethiopia, where he was according to Zedler deported by the Ottoman authorities. After returning to Goa on December 8, he traveled to Europe and was shipwrecked. After he was suspended by the Dutch on a desert island, he finally arrived in Cadiz, Seville and Lisbon to Rome. In 1640 he went back to Goa, where he served as Superior, then as Provincial of the Jesuit religious house. 1658 he returned to his native Portugal.
