Jerrold Nadler

Jerrold Lewis "Jerry" Nadler ( born June 13, 1947 in New York City ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party, and since 1992 member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the state of New York.

Biography

Jerrold Nadler was born in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from high school at Stuyvesant High School. This was followed by studies at Columbia University and Fordham University School of Law. Nadler worked as a lawyer. During the presidential election campaign in 1968, he worked as an advisor to Eugene McCarthy. In 1976 he was elected to the New York State Assembly. This he was a member until the election of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early in his tenure, he represented the 17th Congressional District in New York. There he was elected to succeed Theodore S. Weiss. Since 1993, he represented the eighth district of New York as successor to James H. Scheuer. The district consists of parts of Manhattan. In the district there are various New York City landmarks, including the Empire State Building and the New York Stock Exchange. Up to the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001, the World Trade Center was in this district. In the House, he is a member of the Committee on the Judiciary and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. His seat he has been able to defend at every election.

Nadler is Jewish. He lives with his wife Joyce Miller and his son Michael in the Upper West Side in Manhattan.
