Jerry Costello

Jerry Francis Costello ( born September 25, 1949 in East St. Louis, Illinois) is an American politician. From 1988 to 2013 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Jerry Costello attended until 1968 Assumption High School in East St. Louis and then the Belleville Area College and the Maryville College of the Sacred Heart in St. Louis ( Missouri). In the following years he worked in various positions in the administration of justice and to the prosecutor. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party. Between 1980 and 1988 he was chairman of the County Council in St. Clair County.

After the death of Mr Charles Melvin Price Costello won the election due in the 21st electoral district of Illinois and moved on August 9, 1988 in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC one. Since 1993 he represented as a successor to Phil Crane twelfth district of his state. In October 2011, Costello announced that he would not re-apply after twelve successful re- election to the election and resigned on January 3, 2013, the Congress of. His successor was again a Democrat with William Enyart.

Costello was most recently a member of the Committee on Science, Space and Technology and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and in four sub-committees.
