Jerry Hoyt

Gerald F. "Jerry" Hoyt ( born January 29, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois, † July 10, 1955 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) was an American race car driver.

Career

Hoyt drove in the 1950s in 19 races of the AAA National Series. He achieved his best result in 1953 at the Milwaukee Mile in third place.

He was also four times in the 500 miles of Indianapolis at the start. His greatest success was here the pole position in 1955., But in the race he had to give up as well as in previous years, according to technical defects early. In 1954, he at least could drive Russo's car as a roller over the finish line. ( Driver change at that time were allowed).

Since the 500 - mile race from 1950 to 1960 belonged to the world championship of Formula 1, Hoyt was with four World Cup races at the start. However, points for the drivers' world championship, he could not win.

Hoyt was killed in the summer of 1955 at a sprint -car race at Oklahoma City.
