Jerry Keller

Jerry Keller ( born June 20, 1937 in Fort Smith, Arkansas) is an American songwriter who became known as the artist with his number-one hit, " Here Comes Summer" as a one- hit wonder in the pop history.

Career

At age six Keller had moved with his family to Tulsa, where he founded a band called The Lads of touch even in the first half of the 1950s. The band won a talent competition, they briefly got gigs with the band Jack Dalton in the Midwestern United States. In 1955, Keller worked for nearly a year as a disc jockey in Tulsa. In 1956 he went to New York to try his luck as a singer. Here he learned in his church Pat Boone know who gave him a contact with Kapp Records. In 1959 he celebrated with his first single his only hit as a singer. "Here Comes Summer" was a U.S. summer hit, which advanced all the way to 14th place; he came to the UK until the autumn, which did nothing to diminish his popularity - October 9, 1959, he captured first place in the Top 20

To see the basement only as a one- hit wonder, but he did wrong. As a writer he was very successful, several songs, in whose creation he was involved, were hits for other artists:

  • " Almost There ", No. 67 Andy Williams (written by Gloria Shayne, from the movie " How to tame Eva ", original title " I'd Rather Be Rich", 1964)
  • "Turn Down Day ", number 16 for The Cyrkle ( with Dave Flower, 1966)
  • " How Does It Go? " For Ricky Nelson ( with Jay Goodis, 1965)
  • "A Man and a Woman": Francis Lai's theme song of the film " Un homme et une femme" he wrote the English text; as "A Man and a Woman", the song by artists such as Matt Monro, Ella Fitzgerald, Engelbert, Johnny Mathis, and Jose Feliciano was taken.

As early as 1961 he had written the music for several episodes of the TV series Everglades. As a film composer he wrote soundtrack music for " It happened at 8 Clock 30" ( " I Saw What You Did", 1965), " Live the Life " ( " Vivre pour vivre ", 1967), "The Shakiest Gun in the West" ( 1968) and "Angel in My Pocket " (1969).

During the 1970s and 1980s he was one of the most sought after singers for television jingles. In the film, he appeared in a Cameorolle as a conductor in " You Light Up My Life" ( 1977 ) and "If I see you again " ( "If I Ever See You Again ", 1978) on.

In 1970, "Here Comes Summer" - this time in the summer - again a hit in the UK; the single with a cover version of the Dave Clark Five in July 1970 rose to # 44
