Jerry Norman

Jerry Lee Norman (* July 16, 1936 in Watsonville, California, † July 7, 2012 in Seattle ) was an American Sinologist and Mandschurist.

Norman wrote his dissertation in 1969 at the University of California, Berkeley discussing The Kienyang dialect of Fukien.

He taught from 1972 until his retirement in 1998 at the Department of Asian Languages ​​at the University of Washington in Seattle. Norman became known through his employment with the Min dialects and the Altaic languages. Norman was that of president of the prestigious American Oriental Society.
