Jerry Sanders (businessman)

Walter Jeremiah Sanders III ( Jerry Sanders III) ( born September 12, 1936 in Chicago) is an American electrical engineer and co-founder of Advanced Micro Devices. He was from 1969 to 2002 Chief Executive Officer and President of the company.

Career

Sanders studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana -Champaign and graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from. After graduating, he worked in the Douglas Aircraft Company and at Motorola, before joining Fairchild Semiconductor. There he worked in the Sales and Marketing Department.

On 1 May 1969 he founded together with former Fairchild employee Ed Turney, the Company Sanders Association, which was later renamed to Advanced Micro Devices. Sanders was from the beginning, President and CEO of this company. In 2002, Sanders handed the post of CEO and president of the company from Héctor Ruiz and went into retirement.
